New therapy dog teams: Marina, Emma, Kathy, Sophie, Janice and Star
"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."- Roger Caras
I believe the quote by Roger Caras says it all. A dog can do so many things
to enrich our lives, and now because of Chenny Troupe, the lives of others.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to share my dog Emma with the people
who work with Chenny. From the moment I took Emma to her first obedience class,
I realized she would be a very special dog. Besides her wonderfully docile
personality, she was also quick to learn.
Emma lives in Northfield with Sunny the Labrador. She enjoys treats, tummy rubs, and being our canine vacuum cleaner after parties. She also has another special talent that we like to refer to as a "drive-by licking." Usually only experienced if she thinks we have forgotten feeding time, she will walk back & forth licking us until someone goes to the food bin. Emma & I look forward to participating in this wonderful program.
Sophie is approximately 2 years of age. She is believed to be a mix of Great Dane and Bullmastiff.
Perry and I adopted her from Adopt a Pet in December of 2001 at 9-12 months of age and weighing in at 80 lbs. She had no training and was not housebroken. The one thing she did have was a sweet temperament and a love for eating. What could be bad about that, we said, she fit right in. Perry had the pleasant job of taking her to training class because I could not. He also agreed to complete her intermediate training.
Her first attempt at passing the Chenny test was unsuccessful. She was very disappointed. So she is very happy to have completed her tasks this time.
Sophie loves outdoor activities like fetching the ball, guarding the yard and going to the farm. Her favorite indoor activity is sleeping with the office manager which is a cat called Xena (feline warrior). She loves cuddling and having her eyes and muzzle cleaned.
We're not sure what her favorite color is yet!
Star is so proud to be part of the Chenny Troupe Community. He is an 18 pound black, miniature poodle that is energetic, bright and ready to work.
When Star was just a puppy, his owner, Leah Rose Orleans - who was just 5 years old at the time - said "Mom, I think Star should be a Therapy Dog." Well, the training began and with the help of professional trainer Kathy McCarthy, 2 ½ years later, we are leashed and ready to serve. Wish us well!
